Thanks for the comment Rebecca! Keep up the awesome work home schooling! Some of my best students were home schooled kids. (Make sure to work on the socialization process…it really does make a difference in their college experience.)

This link is to an article on student loan debt slaves that discusses in depth some of what you’ve touched on here. (It’s from a couple of years ago; I keep a print out of it in my binder full of homeschool stuff.) One thing that impressed me when I read this is that the ever-ascending baseline of what is considered a necessary amount of education makes a high school diploma and even a four-year college degree increasingly worthless (in terms of employment and income anyway.) A generation or two ago, high school education was more rigorous and a high school diploma meant something for your employability and your future. Colleges were fewer and more selective, and only the most academically inclined went to college; no one else needed to.
